New Katy Nail Painting - Pontotoc Series
In its current exhibition of local artists - which it entitles “Animal” - Austin’s Quattro Gallery has scooped us by hanging the latest painting in Katy Nail’s “Pontotoc” series, before we even have it on display in our own web site *blush*
Pontotoc is the land site of huge, animistic boulders - of “magical shape and mien” - that uncannily resemble animals. The Gallery has photographs of the original rocks on display next to their interpreted paintings - this is a wonderful chance to understand that the world Katy Nail inhabits is equally strange as the pictures of it that she paints.

The latest Pontotoc painting.

The original boulder.
